First things first! Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Throw your cube steaks in and give them a nice sear—about 2-3 minutes on each side.

While that’s happening, chop your carrots and potatoes into sizable chunks. Aim for that happy medium, and toss them into the crock pot.

Now that your meat is beautifully browned, place it over the veggies in the crock pot. Sprinkle that onion soup mix all over the top and pour in the beef broth.

Chop up your garlic and sprinkle it over the top. I like to add a little more than the recipe calls for because garlic is life.

Put the lid on and set your crock pot to low for 6-8 hours, or high for 3-4 hours. You can walk away, clean the kitchen, or even take a catnap.

When it’s all done, give everything a good stir. The gravy should be thick and luscious. I usually like to serve this over rice or mashed potatoes.
